Historical PlaceMahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram, is an ancient port city located along the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It flourished during the 7th and 8th centuries under the rule of the Pallava dynasty, particularly King Narasimhavarman I, also known as Mamalla, from whom the town gets its name.
The town is globally renowned for its rock-cut architecture and monolithic sculptures carved from massive granite boulders.
