About Coonoor

Coonoor is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris after Ooty and sits at an altitude of about 1,850 meters above sea level. It is part of the scenic Nilgiri Hills, a UNESCO-listed biosphere region.

The town developed during the British colonial period and still preserves charming bungalows, churches, and tea estates from that era. The cool climate, rolling green slopes, and vast tea plantations make it one of the most picturesque destinations in South India.

Coonoor is also famous for the historic Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage toy train that connects Mettupalayam, Coonoor, and Ooty. The train journey offers breathtaking views of tunnels, bridges, and lush valleys.

The region is known for tea production, and visitors can tour tea factories to understand processing and taste fresh Nilgiri tea. The natural beauty, waterfalls, and viewpoints make it perfect for photography and relaxation.
