About Kumbhalgarh

Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in the 15th century (around 1443–1458 CE) by Rana Kumbha, the ruler of Mewar. Strategically located in the Aravalli Hills, the fort stands at an elevation of about 1,100 meters above sea level, making it nearly impregnable in its time.

The fort complex includes:

Massive defensive walls stretching 36 km

Seven fortified gates (Pols)

Over 360 temples (around 300 Jain and 60 Hindu temples)

Palaces, step wells, water reservoirs, and residential quarters

The most important structure inside the fort is the Badal Mahal (Palace of Clouds), known for its beautiful murals and panoramic views. The fort’s massive walls are thick enough to allow eight horses to walk abreast.

In 2013, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan group.
