National ParkBrahmaputra River. Established as a reserve forest in 1905 and later declared a national park in 1974, Kaziranga is globally celebrated for its successful conservation efforts—especially for the endangered Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros.
The park covers approximately 430 square kilometers and features a unique landscape of tall elephant grass, marshlands, rivers, and tropical forests. Apart from rhinos, Kaziranga is home to Royal Bengal Tigers, Asian elephants, wild water buffaloes, swamp deer, hoolock gibbons, and over 500 species of birds, making it a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, Kaziranga also holds the status of a Tiger Reserve, having one of the highest tiger densities in the world. Seasonal flooding of the Brahmaputra plays a crucial role in maintaining the park’s ecosystem, although it also poses challenges for wildlife conservation.
